Social Media

I have about 130 posts with embedded “tweets” on my blog. If those folks delete their account I delete my embed of those. It seems like every couple days I get errors because the original tweet has been deleted, and the account is gone. The steady stream of folks off of X continues.

I could not care less about Tik Tok, and would consider it an upgrade to the Internet for it to be removed from the US, and frankly everywhere else. The fact people care so much is proof of its intentional addictive design.

If I was born and brought up in the time of modern social media, would I even blog?

I saw Jatan Mehta reflecting on this question (on micro.blog no less — 👋 @moonmehta) and I couldn’t help but ponder the question myself. For context let’s get some things in order since the question is premised around time. The official start date for my blog is June 2, 2004. …

micro.one making blogging more accessible!

Congratulations to Manton on the launch of micro.one! I have been a happy customer of micro.blog since launch and I love this new simplified version that makes blogging even more accessible at a super low $10 a year! Living inside the little box that a social media platforms give …

Threads Moderation Changes

There has been a lot of noise today about Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement on Threads about their moderation policies. My position is unchanged — private companies can choose their policies and along the lines of the law they can do what they wish. I don’t think it is even right to …

Hey LinkedIn,

Do you remember in 2013 when you started routing emails through your proxy server without asking users about it?

I do.

Because of that you will never have an app on my device. You are only allowed in the web browser where it is safe.

This two-way comment system that @manton has setup with Bluesky is pretty cool to see in action. I replied to a comment left via a Bluesky authentication on my blog and it showed up as a post on Bluesky a few moments later. Pretty cool! 👏

The start of a list. Social media is…

  • Antisocial
  • Totalitarian

Could the micro.blog discover section take a very different approach? The curation was nice but I doubt sustainable.

How about a sampling technique using a percentage of all posts that are not replies and including them? I feel like that would work pretty well. Not algorithmic, just a sample rate.

You can find me on the web.

So much chatter lately on leaving social platform this to go to social platform that.

The new thing.

The better thing?

What is everyone chasing?

I’ll be right here on the web.

Same place I was before.

Same place I’ll be in the future.
