Triple Hoppy!

Not my Big Green Egg. Looks delicious.

Macchiato at Sip.

We finally got a chance to watch The Wrestler. Very good movie, but pretty violent at times. Definitely worthwhile though.

On Sunday we hit Nelson’s Ice Cream for some giant ice cream cones in Stillwater.

Peppa Pig DVD Covers Part 2

Another contribution to the Internet for high-resolution cover art. Here are the front and back scans of the DVD’s for Peppa Pig: The Balloon Ride, Piggy in the Middle and Bubbles. Mazie loves Peppa Pig.

Xefer Twitter Visualization

This graphic can generally be put in the pile of visualizations of stuff that isn’t important, but the display is cool. This tool from Xefer looks at your Twitter behavior distribution over days of the week and time.

Happily, it seems I don’t use Twitter in my sleep.

iPhone 3.0 Phone Label

This is a little change in the iPhone 3.0 release that I hadn’t seen anyone mention. When you change the type of a phone number in Address Book on the iPhone you’ve always been able to set custom labels in addition to the built-in ones. However, there was a new one added in 3.0 for “iPhone” (see 2nd choice).

Kind of odd. Not real sure what you would use this for other than vanity. I guess you could sometime specify, particularly with the coming use of MMS, that I only want to send this to iPhones?

Flying Scotsman

Good movie all bout Graeme Obree’s pursuit of various cycling records.

First Shot at Homemade Ice Cream

Cooking was definitely the action for this years Father’s Day gifts. Tammy signed me up for a couple more of the Grillmaster cooking classes at Kitchen Window. Mazie got me something I’ve wanted to play around with for a while, an ice cream maker. We gave it a go for the first time tonight with a basic vanilla ice cream recipe. Mazie put the ingredients together and I did the measuring, we then poured it into the machine and started it up.

The machine cranked away and the ice cream slowly came together. The machine has an open top so that you can add ingredients while the ice cream is still mixing, but it’s also handy to dip a spoon in and give the ice cream a test. The final product was delicious and it was a lot of fun to make.

This was a learning batch. I think I should have ran it in the machine a bit longer than I did. It was solid and held in place, but I think I could have gotten it a bit more solid. The biggest thing I learned was that in addition to freezing the ice cream makers bowl, I should also freeze the bowl I’m going to put the finished ice cream in. I placed it in a glass bowl and some of the ice cream melted right away on contact with the glass. Need to keep everything cold!

Star Trek Movie

We finally went and saw the new Star Trek movie. I really enjoyed it. I hesitated seeing it for a long time. It was really good.

Bricker.

Keekley.

Isn’t Hüsker Dü a band? What’s with the Hūsker Dū board game? I guess it’s all in the ū versus the ü.

Happy birthday to not you. — Mazie

Peppa Pig DVD Covers

I find it frustrating when I cannot find good quality, high-resolution album or DVD cover art on the Internet. So, when I have to resort to scanning I like to post it to share the effort with others. Here are the scans to two Peppa Pig DVD’s: Cold Winter Day and Stars.

Learning to Make Sausage

A couple of weekends ago we all loaded up into the car and drove up to Grand Marais to spend a wonderful weekend with our friends the Tangen’s. As is often the case when going “up north”, it was really crazy cold. It was the end of May and on our last day it was barely above freezing.

Anyway, the main attraction of the trip was a class that Tammy had signed Kent and I up for at the North House Folk School. North House is a very cool place where you can go and learn hundreds of skills. While we were learning the in’s and out’s of sausage making, another group of people were learning how to build a brick oven.

Back to the sausage. Another friend, Kevin Dotzenrod, makes the most amazing sausage I’ve ever eaten. I’ve got a few feet of it left in the freezer that I’m coveting from everyone else. I really only like lean sausage with a lot of flavor. Tammy thought it would be fun for me to learn how to make it myself and that’s how Kent and I found ourselves elbow deep in meat.

The experience was captured best with video. Since I was running the camera this video is all Kent. I am excited to try my hand at making some of my own sausage just the way I like it.
