My friend Patrick Rhone @patrickrhone chooses a word for each year and he just shared that “better” is his word for 2025. I like this a lot. I think I’m going to pursue better in 2025 too.
Productivity
Getting a massive overhaul of Shortcuts support in OmniFocus 4.5 this morning is like an early Christmas present! I whipped up a quick “Add to List” shortcut to try it and love the new interfaces. They are significantly more intuitive. 🎁
OmniFocus 4.4.3 just shipped with a bug I found in the change log!
Sync – Fixed issue of the same Mac showing multiple registrations in Settings > Sync > Registered Devices, when running macOS 15 Sequoia. After this update, OmniFocus 4.4.3 may show up as one additional registration; delete all other registrations of the same Mac (that don’t include “this device”) to improve sync times.
I’d been pruning these ghost devices every few days. Happy to not need to look at sync devices now. 🙂
My GTD Structure
I suppose I’m a “list person”. Although I would say I’m a GTD practitioner. I like the sound of that better. And my lists, or GTD system, is managed with OmniFocus. Since my Omni Show appearance I’ve had several email exchanges with fellow “list people” about how I structure my …

Gmails Spam Randomness
I subscribe to my own newsletter via Gmail so that I can see how it is treating the Weekly Thing. I have Gmail configured to forward things to Fastmail which I intercept into an “External” folder. I do the same with iCloud. This morning it didn’t come through. So I went looking… …

I just sent Weekly Thing 291 / Ireland 🇮🇪 as a special issue all about Ireland. This issue didn’t follow my usual structure so I did all the assembly by hand. It took me about 2 hours just to get the sections, links, headers, images, and outline together. Then I could start the …

Keep reading · 1 minute: Summer Challenge: Create a Counter using ShortcutsI am excited to see sync improvements to OmniFocus 4.3 for Apple Watch. The new watchOS app is very good but sync is always behind and makes it very difficult to use. Smart to use the iOS app as a sync speed up!
- Sync – When a paired iPhone is nearby, the watch app will now download recent changes from that iPhone prior to syncing with the sync server. This makes syncing faster and more reliable when the watch doesn’t have a fast connection to the sync server.
- Sync – The watch app now attempts to sync automatically whenever it detects that the iPhone app has newer data.
- Sync – Sync errors are now automatically resolved by the watch app.
Omni Show 136: How Jamie Thingelstad Uses OmniFocus
Episode 136 of the Omni Show podcast just showed up with me as the guest! I recorded this a couple weeks ago with Andrew Mason and it is great to see it live. The Omni Show is also trying out video and I agreed to give it a try so there is also a video version on YouTube. This …
