He led the development of innovative social and e-commerce solutions as Chief Technology Officer of 8thBridge. He was founding Chief Technology Officer of BigCharts, which sold to MarketWatch in 1999. Also, he has developed and managed products and technologies for properties including Barron’s, Virtual Stock Exchange, Dow Jones Newswires and Dow Jones Indexes.

His passion for technology ignited at the University of Minnesota, Institute of Technology, where he built a database-driven management system to help serve disabled students and faculty while still an undergrad.

A committed volunteer, Mr. Thingelstad serves on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Technology Association, and has previously served on the board of Minnestar and CaringBridge. He lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with his wife, two children, and their dog.

In 2012, Mr. Thingelstad was the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer of 8thBridge, the pioneering force behind social commerce experiences. In this dual role, Mr. Thingelstad managed the organization’s day-to-day activities and oversaw the development of revolutionary technology solutions such as the travel industry’s first e-commerce capability on Facebook. Fluid, Inc., an advertising services provider, purchased 8thBridge in 2013.

In 2009, Mr. Thingelstad was Entrepreneur-in-Residence for Split Rock Partners, the leading Venture Capital and Private Equity firm in Minnesota, where he used his expertise and insights to explore new ventures and advise growing Internet companies on their product and technology strategy.

Before Split Rock Partners, Mr. Thingelstad was Chief Technology Officer and Vice President for the Wall Street Journal Digital Network, the consumer division of Dow Jones. In this leadership position, he directed product and technology solutions for the Wall Street Journal website and MarketWatch. Also, he and his team oversaw other services including Barron’s, BigCharts and Virtual Stock Exchange.

Before moving to the Wall Street Journal Digital Network, Mr. Thingelstad led the technology for the enterprise division of Dow Jones. As Chief Technology Officer, he led the technology organizations for Dow Jones Newswires, Dow Jones Indexes, and the Dow Jones Licensing teams.

Mr. Thingelstad came to Dow Jones by way of acquisition. He was serving as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of MarketWatch, Inc., when Dow Jones purchased the company in 2005. Before MarketWatch, Mr. Thingelstad was the founding Chief Technology Officer and Vice President for BigCharts, the leading provider of financial tools and information to consumers and financial services companies via the web. MarketWatch acquired BigCharts in 1999.

His longstanding passion and gift for technology ignited at the University of Minnesota, Institute of Technology, where he experienced the Internet, networked computing, and distributed systems. While still a student, he launched his professional career by building a client-server database solution to help serve disabled students and faculty. In 1994, Mr. Thingelstad started WebSpan, an Internet services startup created to help build websites and Internet-enable small businesses.

A committed volunteer, Mr. Thingelstad serves on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Technology Association, and has previously served on the board of Minnestar and CaringBridge. He lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with his wife, two children, and their dog.
