REM5 for Good: Simulacra Two
REM5 for Good ran a digital art event, Simulacra Two, and in addition to other options they offered NFTs of a number of items.
I missed the real event but found out about it before it was all done and picked up four NFTs.
They used Tezos for this and minted and sold the NFTs on H=N. I wasn’t setup for that at all so I bought some XTZ on Coinbase, setup a walled on Kukai, and was then able to grab these.
First MN United game since Oct 20, 2019! So awesome to be here with the chants, drums, and smoke! MN United leading Austin FC 2-0 at half. ⚽️
19,209 total attendance!
Random Forecasts
We all try to predict the future. Particularly in business, sports, finance, etc. I like to recall a story that Larry Kramer, CEO of MarketWatch, shared with me a long time ago.
Larry had spent a lot of time in finance, but before that had a deep background in sports. Sports betting is a huge industry and people try to prove that they have the edge in picking the winner of any game. So, anyone that can prove that they are a good picker will get attention, or be able to sell their upcoming predictions. Larry shared one of the strategies that he had seen many times.
- Take a large group of people, let’s say 10,000. Send half of them a message that Team A will win the game this weekend. Send the other have a message that Team B will win the game this weekend.
- Whichever team wins, send a message to that group that you were right. Send no further messages to the group you got wrong.
- Repeat.
At the end of three cycles you have 1,250 people that have seen you perfectly predict the last three games. You must be a genius! Will they pay you to get your prediction for the next game? You must have an edge.
So what is the lesson? When someone seems like a fantastic forecaster, make sure you aren’t just one of the people in that third set of people!
We walked through the Lyndale Park Rose Garden on our way around Lake Harriet today. The flowers were beautiful.
It was a fabulous Father’s Day 2021! Waffles with berries and whipped cream to start the day. Family walk around Lake Harriet. Visiting Family. Finished with dinner at Yum!
I am so lucky for these two kids, and my amazing wife Tammy who took the picture. 🥰

We watched Raya and the Last Dragon tonight. It was a fun movie, great animation, and a classic storyline. The five quests reminded us of Trolls World Tour, but with more complications. 🍿

Family supply chain overload as demand has dropped precipitously.

Drinks at Lake & Irving on the patio. fig & rye (fig infused templeton rye, orange bitters, sugar) and bee’s knees (gin, strega, honey, ginger, lemon). 🥃

I love when friends surprise you with the gift of a good book! I’m looking forward to reading Tiny Habits. Thanks Nick! 📚

My book club met in person for the first time since Jan 30 2020. It was great to see everyone “IRL” and discuss Ishiguro’s “Klara and the Sun”. Great book, great conversation, and a great group of people to be with.

Makes me very happy to see people back in the park listening to music at the Lake Harriet Bandshell.

Great evening for a bike ride around Lake Harriet.

848 Day Streak
Yesterday ended my 848 day meditation streak.
Streaks are a great way to build habits. They can also become obsessions. I had certainly been there, sometimes squeezing in a meditation right before bed.
I told a friend that I would purposefully break the streak at 1,000 days.
The streak ended the best way possible. I just forgot. We had a great pool party with family for Mazie’s upcoming birthday and it was an amazing and packed day. Action from dawn to dusk.
And thus the streak ends, and with it no need to obsess. Perfect.

Sunset on Cannon Lake.

I love our new Escher inspired log “tables” for our fire area. These were logs left over from the Peanuts Tree that Adam Gale carved. Another great project with Rust n Grain!
I’m so happy to have our Andrew Carson wind sculpture back up after being in storage a couple of years. It is one of my favorite pieces of art. It is the centerpiece of the raised garden beds.
I didn’t get the Weekly Thing done last night, but I got up early this morning and finished issue 190 with 28 minutes to spare! 😅
