Movies
Quick reactions to films we’ve watched as a family—ranging from the bonkers fun of Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning to indie darlings, animated favorites and rewatching Into the Wild with my daughter. I note what resonated (or didn’t) and who joined us.
We watched Abominable tonight for Family Movie night and it was great. Wonderful story and very touching. Even better than I expected. 🍿
Pandemic Date Night
Like many Tammy and I haven’t had a “typical” date night during the pandemic. Restaurants are take out only. Movie theaters are closed, and would be a pretty bad idea with Covid. But we were thinking how the Tesla has Netflix and Hulu so we decided to have a Pandemic Date Night in the car! We got takeout from Lake & Irving, one of our favorite places.

Then we went to Lake Bde Maka Ska, parked along the parkway, and watched Hunt for the Wilder People on Netflix in the car. It was a fun change of pace, and a really good movie.

When Tesla added Entertainment options like Netflix and Hulu I thought that would be possibly interesting when waiting for someone. But hadn’t ever thought we’d watch a whole movie. 🍿 Also, running the heater, seat heaters, and entertainment system for the whole movie used about 10% battery. Also, the audio is really good. The surround sound was very immersive. I think we may do this again. 👍
Family tradition to watch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving on the evening on Thanksgiving. 🍿
We watched Doolittle for family movie night and we all enjoyed it a lot. It is a bit crazy, but all fun in its craziness.
Tammy and I watched Brittany Runs a Marathon tonight. Fine movie with a happy ending. May make you want to run a marathon. 🍿
Family movie night with Call of the Wild. We all enjoyed it. We also tend to love dog movies. 🍿
Cashed in a chip with the kids and got them to watch Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace. They have resisted Star Wars but this one was their favorite over episode IV. There is still hope. 🍿
Family movie night, National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets. Fun movie. Very similar to the first one. 🍿
My Octopus Teacher
We enjoyed watching My Octopus Teacher tonight. It is a touching story capturing the year that Craig Foster spent visiting this octopus every day. My favorite scene was toward the end when he captures the octopus playing with a school of fish. Beautifully filmed, with great underwater scenes. 🍿
Mulan via Disney+
We watched Mulan tonight on Disney+ with Premier Access. The movie was great. None of us had seen the animated version so the story was all new and hooked us right away.
The film itself was impressive and the action was phenomenal. Watching it at home was just fine. We don’t have a full home theatre but it was still a great experience. We forgot to make popcorn though. 🍿
It would be a welcome change to be able to see movies right away on digital platforms.
Family movie tonight, National Treasure. Tyler’s pick. Fun story. 🍿
Tammy and I finally watched A Star is Born. We both enjoyed it. Great acting. Music was of course great. 🍿
We watched The Biggest Little Farm tonight. This was part of a school assignment Mazie had to watch one of a list of movies and then write an essay on it. We all enjoyed it. This type of farming is a hard path, but a rewarding one when it works.
We all watched Strike tonight. Fun and a little odd movie. Reminded us a little bit of Fantastic Mr. Fox.
We watched A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood tonight. What a fabulous movie. Great performances as well. 🎬⭐️
Family movie night with Mr. Popper’s Penguins. 🎬
Watched Ford v Ferrari tonight. Loved it. Great story, acting, and action. 🎬
Went to Jojo Rabbit tonight. Great movie, hard to explain. Go see it. 🎬
