Seems like every long vacation we take involves one of the kids making a (non-critical) visit to urgent care.

My weekend project: cleaning and discarding on large scale.

Assorted junk and old furniture piled on a driveway for disposal, including a refrigerator, wooden workbench, and scrap lumber. Dumpster filled with old lumber and demolition debris on a concrete pad, with trees and a lake visible in the background.

Taking the pontoon to storage for the winter. Biking back to lake.

Green road bike loaded on a Sunsat pontoon boat crossing a lake, viewed from the helm with steering wheel and gauges visible.

The Martian

Movie poster showing a close-up of an astronaut in a spacesuit helmet against a Martian landscape with text Bring Him Home

Great movie. Very entertaining. As usual, book was better and the movie cut out a lot of stuff but still highly recommend.

AWS re:Play

The High Roller Ferris wheel lit in green and blue towering over a packed outdoor concert crowd at night with colorful stage lighting

Holy crap Zedd! Lost my re:Invent badge while dancing — recovered it!

Dense crowd with hands raised at a concert, illuminated by bright green laser beams radiating from multiple stage sources DJ silhouetted behind a glowing red and orange booth on a large stage with a curved blue LED backdrop, crowd raising hands

Zedd put the volume on 11 and never let up.

Crowd with hands raised at a concert as confetti rains down under blue and white laser lights and LED screens

AWS re:Invent - Day 2

Good seat for Werner Vogels AWS re:Invent tech keynote. Looking forward to announcements!

Large conference hall packed with attendees facing a stage displaying a large AWS re:Invent logo on a blue-lit screen

X1 instance with 2TB of RAM and 100 cores? Wow.

Looking forward to doing some Python Lambda functions! WikiApiary bots would be perfect!

Wonder if AWS Lambda functions in Python can use the Requests library? Yep, any pip module can be used in Lambda. Requests in this example.

AWS re:Invent - Day 1

Excited to hear Andy Jassy give the first AWS re:Invent keynote!

Large conference hall packed with hundreds of attendees seated facing a stage with multiple large screens displaying System Integrators sponsor logos

Amazon Snowball very good idea. Make it easy.

Would be equally nice to use Snowball to get data OUT of AWS.

Awesome to see MariaDB now in Amazon RDS! I’ve been running MariaDB personally for years and it’s solid.

Very impressive!

SPS Reaper RIP. #TeamSPS
