I got my Peloton Century Club shirt yesterday! Like it!
Very impressed with Decadent Saint Ultimate Mixer! Just add water and it’s a delicious refreshing drink for a summer afternoon!
We capped off #TeamSPS TechJam 2020 with a keynote from Casey Rosenthal on resilient systems and the practices that enable and support that transition. He filled it with fabulous stories relating the core resiliency topics to historical problems. 🙌
Jim Crow of the North
Tammy and I watched Minnesota Experience: Jim Crow of the North tonight. It was incredibly eye opening to one form of systemic racism that I have been surrounded by for over two decades and was not aware of.

Racist real estate covenants were pervasive in Minneapolis and the surrounding suburbs. In fact, the last house that we lived in on Morgan Avenue includes one.
no person or persons other than of the white race shall be permitted to occupy said premises or any part thereof
You can see the relatively small enclave of these racist covenants right off of Minnehaha Creek. Then a huge grid of them further south.

I was curious about our current home on the East side of Pamela Park in Edina. Somewhat surprisingly, none of the properties on the East have covenants, but the Western side of Pamela Park is littered with them.

If you are curious you can spend some time exploring yourself at Mapping Prejudice. Kevin Ehrman-Solberg, one of the co-founders of the project, also did a TEDx Minneapolis talk on these racist covenants.
I’m left with the data that 75% of White families in Minneapolis own their own homes, and only 25% of Black families own their home. The generations of wealth built and restricted from so many families has massive impact still today.

Cloud and Light on Cannon Lake.
Family bike ride on Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail to Dairy Queen and back. Perfect 10 mile ride! 🚴🏼♂️🍦
I dropped my iPhone in the water yesterday and when I went to charge it last night I got this notice. I was able to charge it this morning. However, FaceID is not working right now. I’m hoping that clears up shortly.
Want corn knee-high by the Fourth of July? What does it mean when it’s over your head by the Fourth of July?
Made a short trip to Montgomery, MN tonight to get some delicious beer from Montgomery Brewing and great pizza to-go from Pizzeria 201. Eating on a blanket by the railroad tracks was an adventure though.

The fireworks on Cannon Lake were even more amazing than usual this year. Our neighbor launched more big fireworks than many cities do! 🤩💥🧨
Hanging out in the pool watching fireworks overhead is pretty amazing. 😊💥

Happy 4th of July everyone — in fruit pizza! 🇺🇸💥

Pork butts done with their journey and time to shred. Thank you Big Green Egg and Sous Vides for the journey! 🇺🇸🔥🐖
30 seconds of Big Green Egg Zen Smoke for your viewing and relaxing pleasure. 🔥
Pork Butts out of the Sous Vides baths and now onto the Big Green Egg for 3 hours of smoke! 🔥
We tried Grandpa’s Ice Cream in Fridley for the first time today. Great flavors. The people were super nice and everyone had masks and were well distanced. The ice cream was a great break from the heat! 🍦

4th of July barbecue prep started today. Rubbed two nice pork butts and ready for Sous Vides baths over next 48 hours.

Started reading The Bullet Journal Method. Recommended by Dan Grigsby to give it a full read versus just scanning the syntax. More depth here than I suspected. 📚
