Other than that it has goats, but we didn’t see any of them, and a lot of seagulls.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/e82e8b812f.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Three people sitting on a large rock in front of stone church ruins on a grassy island under a cloudy sky.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/8005d7528a.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Roofless stone church ruin on a grassy island with a cylindrical stone tower visible in the distance under a cloudy sky.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/b156f7bce6.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Green grassy headland with stone church ruins near the rocky shoreline, calm sea and coastal town visible in the background.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/4cfb8504f8.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Seagull perched on the corner of ancient stone ruins overlooking a calm bay with hills in the distance under a cloudy sky.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/c39cdfbec6.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Ruins of a coastal stone cannon battery with overgrown circular gun emplacement tracks and sea visible in the background\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/905a70d265.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Round stone Martello tower on a rocky grass-covered headland with a coastal town visible across calm water under a cloudy sky.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/356f4db574.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Person walking a grass path toward stone ruins of a roofless building on a rocky coastal island under a cloudy sky.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/acf375b5ef.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Small red ferry boat docked at a stone pier as passengers board, with white houses on a wooded hillside across the water.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/img-4130.jpeg\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Map showing a blue GPS track crossing Dalkey Sound from the mainland to Dalkey Island with red pins marking stops along the route.\">\n",

This tour included actors portraying three different roles in medieval times: Barber/Surgeon, Archer, Cook. The actors did a great job and made it all very informative and funny as well. The barber/surgeon shared the somewhat gruesome tale of how they would bleed someone to keep their humors right, and how that bloodied cloth would be wrapped around a pool and hung out front — a red and white striped pole — a barber poll. The archer explained the defenses of the castle including the &ldquo;murder hole&rdquo;. The cook described how the flesh would be prepared for the important people and that she could have the organs and make it into a pie — a humble pie.</p>\n<p>It was fun to hear more about this castle and it answered some questions about Tubbrid Castle that we stayed at in Kilkenny. In fact, Tubbrid Castle also had a murder hole that you could pour hot liquids or drop heavy objects on people at the door. It also featured a fortified and locked ground level with double entrances.</p>\n",

And Tammy was my vigilant copilot. She was always looking and helping navigate round abouts and a variety of traffic scenarios!</p>\n<p>So, how was driving in Ireland?</p>\n<h3 id=\"everything-is-opposite\">Everything is Opposite</h3>\n<p>I had never driven a right-hand drive car so that was all new. I decided to opt for a manual transmission and I’m glad I did. Driving a manual made me always connected to what the car was doing and frankly there were some roads where the manual just did a much better job. Happily the gear box layout is the same, and the pedals are the same too. Clutch on the left foot just like you would hope.</p>\n<p>When we were in Turks &amp; Caicos I had to drive on the left hand side of the road, however, it was in a left-hand drive car. So here in Ireland I was on the left-hand side of the road, but I was also in a right-hand drive car. Having <strong>everything</strong> be opposite was much better. Just like at home the driver is closer to oncoming traffic. Just on the other side.</p>\n<p>After a few days of driving I got a bit more comfortable with the opposites, but it required constant vigilance. I needed to think through every turn and be much more aware of where I was looking. Again everything was opposite and you could never enter that habitual autopilot like we do when we drive. Taking a right turn always felt odd since that is a risk-free turn at home, but here is where you are crossing oncoming traffic.</p>\n<p>Again, just all opposite world but I adapted good enough.</p>\n<h3 id=\"crazy-small-roads\">Crazy Small Roads</h3>\n<p>In addition to everything being opposite the roads are often just tiny. Like really tiny. Often times you cannot fit two cars on the road and have to watch for turnouts on the road and stop to let the other cars go through. Additionally, there are no shoulders as the roads are most often fenced in or lower than grade. So let&rsquo;s say you had to get out the way of oncoming traffic? At home you could decide to leave the road and go into the ditch. There is no ditch. In fact, there is no way you could leave the road. You are in a slot care lane and there is no where to go.</p>\n<p>The big highways were fine. The M designated roads were fast and divided highways. But in the smaller towns and rural areas the R roads required a lot of vigilance. I found it surprising that the speed limit on these roads would be 80 km/h, or even 100 km/h. You&rsquo;re driving at those speeds right in front of houses and businesses. There are driveways that exit right onto a 100 km/h road which I’m still confused how that works.</p>\n<h3 id=\"feedback\">Feedback</h3>\n<p>So, I think I did good but I figured I&rsquo;d ask the family for feedback.</p>\n<p><strong>Tammy</strong>: ★★★★★ (for American driving in Ireland)<br>\n&ldquo;He did a great job!&rdquo;</p>\n<p><strong>Mazie</strong>: ★★★★★<br>\n&ldquo;Balances safety and assertiveness very well. I sometimes felt like I was on a rollercoaster ride as we zoomed around the corners but I always knew he was one step ahead looking out for any danger.&rdquo;</p>\n<p><strong>Tyler</strong>: 🤷‍♂️<br>\n&ldquo;I mostly slept.&rdquo;</p>\n",

"content_html": "<p>This morning after arriving in Dublin we went to <a href=\"https://experiencegaelicgames.com\">Experience Gaelic Games</a> to learn and play some Hurling, Gaelic Football, and Handball. In our time in Ireland we&rsquo;ve come across Hurling frequently. On <a href=\"https://www.thingelstad.com/2024/06/03/ireland-log-day.html\">day 3</a> when we were on the lawn at Muckross House we saw a family with these odd stick/bat things hitting a ball around. The Hurley Stick is a pretty common thing. On <a href=\"https://www.thingelstad.com/2024/06/08/ireland-log-day.html\">day 8</a> when we were hiking with Pat Sweeney he pointed out the County Clare flags that were flying in support of their team taking on Limerick the next day. County Clare was the underdog, and <a href=\"https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic-games/2024/06/09/limerick-v-clare-history-carved-out-by-six-in-a-row-winning-limerick/\">sadly they did not prevail</a>. Sorry Pat!</p>\n<p>But Hurling is just one of the Gaelic games. Gaelic Football is another popular one. And while we didn’t see anyone playing Handball that is the third. Things we learned at todays session:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hurling is the most popular, with Gaelic Football growing fast right now.</li>\n<li>I loved that all Hurling players &ldquo;play where they are born&rdquo;. So you don&rsquo;t trade players. You play for your club and if you move to the top you play for your county.</li>\n<li>There is <strong>no sponsorships</strong>. Ticket sales and fundraisers support everything.</li>\n<li>The players just play, they aren&rsquo;t paid to play.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Wild stuff when you see a Hurling match in action. All of these games are odd amalgamations. We had a lot of fun playing Hurling. Gaelic Football was a bit too easy to think of like Soccer, even though it isn&rsquo;t at all like Soccer. It was a really fun time learning these sports.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/c4df90af35.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Four people wearing green Azzurri hurling helmets hold hurleys on a grass pitch under a cloudy sky\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/cc8a3a1d6b.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Young person wearing a green Azzurri helmet and purple long-sleeve shirt holding a hurley stick upright on a grass pitch\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/b96610734e.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Young person wearing a green Azzurri hurling helmet and Liverpool FC AXA jersey holding a hurley stick on a GAA pitch\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/77c3f8491a.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Four people roaring at camera while holding GAA footballs on a grass pitch in Dublin, wearing yellow vests\">\n",

"content_html": "<p>Today we visited the <a href=\"https://www.titanicbelfast.com\">Titanic Museum</a> in Belfast. It was an incredible experience, one of our favorites that we have ever visited. The museum itself sits at the end of Harland &amp; Wolff Slip 3, exactly where the Titanic was built. Part of what made this experience so good was the multitude of stories it told. It starts with the booming story of ship building in Belfast. It tells the story of Harland &amp; Wolff and the growth of the company that still is there today. It told the story of the Titanic being built starting on March 31, 1909 and launched May 31, 1911. It also of course told the story of the disastrous voyage, and of many of those that were aboard.</p>\n<p>The images of the building of these Olympic Class ships was incredible. The massive scale of everything involved. Just the riveting alone, nearly all done by hand, was miraculous. This incredible museum even has a ride that you can take that shows amongst other things the riveting process in action with workers banging away in confined corners with these white hot rivets. The museum features recreations of First, Second, and Third class accommodations. It really was a wonder, and then it hits the iceberg.</p>\n<p>The second half of the museum reminded me a bit of the 9/11 Monument. It tells the story, minute by minute, from radio signals sent and received from the Titanic. In less than two hours this giant ship is lost along with most on board. It was striking to see the giant wall with the names of the survivors above and those lost below. The museum then tells the tale of the search for the wreckage of the Titanic, and in an amazing display shows the top of the shipwreck underneath a glass floor as you stand above it.</p>\n<p>It was a truly moving museum, worth the trip to Belfast just to see it. We only had about 2 hours, and could have easily used much more time. We&rsquo;ll all remember this place for a long time.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/fa9872aa64.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Black commemorative plaque listing Titanic specifications: built by Harland and Wolff Ltd, yard no 401, slip no 3, keel laid 31 March 1909, maiden voyage 10 April 1912.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/2df7f2df0c.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Scale model of the RMS Titanic displayed in a glass case, showing four funnels and black and red hull, in a dimly lit museum exhibit.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/929cef6c0e.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Silhouette of an ocean liner with four funnels backlit by a glowing light against a deep blue background\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/8d3d54eb8f.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Scale model of the RMS Titanic with lit portholes suspended above visitors browsing display cases in a darkened gallery with colorful projected backdrops\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/c67e619a26.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Aged violin displayed on a stand against a glowing blue backdrop with bokeh light effects in a museum exhibit\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/2497be4cfb.jpg\" width=\"599\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Family of four posing at a replica Titanic bow railing with a ship mural backdrop inside a museum exhibit.\">\n",

"title": "Hawk Walk at Ashford Castle",
"content_html": "<p>If I was living hundreds of years ago I would like to have been a person that hunted with a hawk.</p>\n<p>On our way to <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballyshannon\">Ballyshannon</a> we stopped at <a href=\"https://ashfordcastle.com\">Ashford Castle</a> to experience a <a href=\"https://falconry.ie/hawk-walk/\">Hawk Walk</a>. After completely missing the car park on the first round through we found ourselves back outside the castle grounds getting more thorough directions from the gatekeeper who found us quite amusing. The second time through the gorgeous estate we found it. The castle and estate were amazing on their own. The <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinness_family\">Guinness family</a> owned it at one point.</p>\n<p>We made our way on a nice 10 minute walk through the grounds to the <a href=\"https://falconry.ie/\">Ireland School of Falconry</a> and started our Hawk Walk with a tour of the facility and seeing some of the 32 hawks that they have there. The <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harris's_hawk\">Harris Hawks</a> that we would walk with are unique in that they hunt like a pack. They work cooperatively.</p>\n<p>We all took turns with Mazie and Tyler starting out with the hawks. We took Walnut and Chestnut out for the walk. The hawks came to the glove quick and obviously knew that the morsels of rat were waiting for them.</p>\n<p>We went out on the walk and it was incredible to have these hawks pacing along with us as we went. Anytime you raised the glove they would immediately come. We would then launch them off again and they would fly away. In between they would survey the area and swoop in around us joining along on the walk. Their speed was amazing. They can routinely go 60 miles an hour.</p>\n<p>An amazing experience made even more incredible with Ashford Castle as the backdrop. Photos don&rsquo;t capture this experience that well but the videos really do. The power and grace when the hawk lands on the glove was inspiring.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/94d21697-b923-4a1e-883e-434ff83ef947.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" alt=\"A person with blonde hair is holding a bird of prey on their gloved hand inside a room with a wooden plaque listing names in the background.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/5c257880-fed6-4498-bd91-68fe01cb0a44.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" alt=\"A girl wearing a yellow jacket is holding a bird of prey on her gloved hand in an outdoor setting.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/1619ffc6-abb3-4f26-b3a7-e299acf54b57.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Two people standing outdoors, each holding a bird of prey on their gloved hands.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/9f42bebc-ae68-4066-aad2-ff2e9c3433c3.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"People are standing on a path surrounded by trees, interacting with birds of prey while wearing protective gloves.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/f086cf07-f8f4-4cae-83ca-3479181febc1.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"A group of four people, one child, and three adults are smiling while holding birds of prey at Ireland's School of Falconry.\">\n<p><video controls=\"controls\" playsinline=\"playsinline\" src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/0180dabfde.mov\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" poster=\"https://www.thingelstad.com/uploads/2024/5d2333961a.png\" preload=\"none\"></video></p>\n",

"title": "Hiking the Cliffs of Moher",
"content_html": "<p>I was pretty anxious about today. Today was the day that we did the hike along the Cliffs of Moher.</p>\n<p>First of all, I’m fairly scared of heights. Going to the top of tall buildings is not something I look forward to. Being on very tall things with a lot of wind makes me just more uncomfortable. And then you add people that I love to the mix and I&rsquo;m just a ball of nerves. We did a cliff walk in Ballybunion and that got me spooked a bit and I knew that was beginner level for the heights that we would get on the Cliffs of Moher.</p>\n<p>The plus was that we were going with Pat Sweeney of <a href=\"http://www.doolincliffwalk.com\">Doolin Cliff Walks</a>. Pat has grown up in this area and he was instrumental in this cliff walk even coming about. He worked with all the farmers that own the land along the way to get hiking routes through and make this a reality for the last 14 years. Pat was calm and confident, but also realistic. He stopped a couple of times along the first half of the hike to remind us of safety and being careful. He shared that accidents do happen on the cliffs. Every year there are people that fall off. Some for doing things that they really shouldn&rsquo;t be doing. Others because an accident happens. At one of the stops he shared that just four weeks prior a college girl traveling with three friends fell off the cliff. There was flooding on the trail. So they got on the grass edge to avoid the water, which was probably fine. But then there was an oncoming group and she stepped aside to let them go through and lost her footing.</p>\n<p>In fairness I know people fall into the Grand Canyon every year and you should always be aware and cautious in places like this. So, that is what I focused on. That and keeping myself firmly in the right place on the trail. The kids were kind to me and realized I was anxious and they did a great job. Tammy was helpful too. In the end, we did it and it was an incredible day with amazing views. All while sometimes just a few feet away from a 600 foot drop. 😬</p>\n<p>The walk started very close to the cottage that we are staying in, just down the road. The first stop was to take a moment to take in the area and see <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doonagore_Castle\">Doonagore Castle</a> and appreciate the stone bridge we were walking over that was over 300 years old. The cottage that we are staying in is actually connected with Doonagore Castle and only became an Airbnb recently.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/e4e15f4b-df30-4012-a36e-5d1987ec385e.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"A group of people is gathered around a man giving a presentation in front of an informational sign outdoors, with a stone wall and grassy field in the background.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/b8401bf8-8670-4df2-8ed7-c5d538fa0a03.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" alt=\"A small stone bridge spans over a narrow creek with a solitary tower standing on a grassy hill in the background under a cloudy sky.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/e767fe7d-e5e0-45be-a78c-db38c57ad334.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"A stone bridge is surrounded by lush green grass and wildflowers under a partly cloudy sky, with a few people standing on it.\">\n<p>We passed through and along many farms as we went along the coast.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/3ca6ecf6-979a-4843-9d52-2650ff554c69.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"A group of horses grazes peacefully on a lush, green hillside under a partly cloudy sky, with houses visible in the distance.\">\n<p>After rising about 150 feet above the ocean the views become more stunning.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/d926fdba-2b4b-46b6-b29d-fad0a793bd9b.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"A rugged coastline with dramatic cliffs and a grassy landscape overlooks a vast, turbulent sea.\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/cefefda2-81f3-407f-a12b-a151c8932359.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"A group of people is walking along a grassy coastal path with the sea and blue sky in the background.\">\n<p>There were some stones laid as bridges across streams. The last time Mazie and I went to an Afternoon Tea <a href=\"https://www.thingelstad.com/2008/08/24/mazie-and-daddy.html\">she was three and it was in London</a>. Tammy and Mazie have done a couple of them in Minneapolis but not as grand. It was Tyler&rsquo;s first tea experience.</p>\n<p>We had the 1 PM seating at the Manor in the Great Hall. The room lived up to its name completely. Both Tammy and I added an Earl Grey Bellini (Earl Grey &amp; Apricot infused Peach Liqueur, Champagne) to our experience. We started with the special 1832 Blend that is custom to Adare Manor. I thought it was amazing. Maybe better than my favorite Earl Grey.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/11cab86497.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Grand hall dining room with vaulted dark-wood ceiling, crystal chandelier, large tapestries, set tables with pink upholstered chairs, and staff attending guests\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/6fdd124849.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Elegant afternoon tea table set with silver teapots, a cup of brewed tea on a striped saucer, an Earl Grey Bellini in a champagne flute, and water glasses with lemon slices on white linen.\">\n<p>For the sandwiches we had: Baked Limerick Ham with wholegrain mustard; Free Range Egg Mayonnaise with asparagus, quail egg, brioche; Duncannon Smoked Salmon with caperberry, lemon gel; St. Tola Goat Cheese &amp; Cucumber with goat cheese &amp; cucumber roll, candied walnuts. I was the only one that tried them all and they were good.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/735e034a24.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Two-tier silver cake stand holding elegant finger sandwiches and open-faced canapés on blue-striped plates, set in a wood-panelled library dining room\">\n<p>Tyler got the &ldquo;kids tea&rdquo; (technically he was too old for it but they didn’t care). His tea included varieties of Hot Chocolate. HIs sandwiches included Nutella and Peanut Butter, Ham, Sausage Roll, and Chicken Arancini.</p>\n<p>For the scones course we switched to Earl Grey Darjeeling. The scones were amazing. Mazie enjoyed the lemon curd so much that she made all of it go away. Mazie liked the Earl Gray a bit better than the 1832 Blend. Tammy thought both of the first two teas were okay, but found the white tea that we had as a digestif to be more her liking.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/8089f16c78.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Silver tiered afternoon tea stand holding blue and white striped condiment pots on top and scones wrapped in a white linen napkin below\">\n<p>Deserts were amazing and included: Lemon cake, vanilla cream cheese, strawberry gel; Chocolate Guinness sponge, cherry, chocolate coating; Coconut mousse, sponge, lime curd, lime sable; Mango crémeux, mango jelly, apple compôte, mascarpone vanilla Chantilly cream, choux pastry; Raspberry cranberry mousse &amp; confit, pound cake, almond sable.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/33cd89e50f.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Two-tier silver cake stand holding elegant petit fours including a pink glazed cube, striped cylinder, choux pastry, and chocolate truffle cake on blue-rimmed plates\">\n<p>For desert I tried a third and final tea — Tom Crean Vanilla. How is that? 💈</p>\n<p>Before leaving for vacation I made a stop at <a href=\"https://www.dicksbarbers.com\">Dick’s Sports Barbers</a> and got my regular 3 week cut from Gene. Gene’s been cutting my hair for a decade. I sat down for a trim and shared we were going to Ireland for vacation. After a bit Gene mentioned that if we ended up in Ballybunion I should go to McMunn’s. I knew Ballybunion was already on our itinerary. “We will for sure be there!”</p>\n<p>It turns out that Tony McMunn is an “Edina guy” as Gene put it — a successful business guy and he owns McMunn&rsquo;s in Ballybunion. Tony got his hair cut at Dick&rsquo;s Barbers for many years. Dick, the owner, and Gene, both use to cut his hair. Gene said he was a nice guy and now lives in Florida but he still owns this pub in Ballybunion.</p>\n<p>So tonight we stopped in for a pint of Guinness and desert for the family. When checking out I asked the waitress if she knew Tony McMunn and she did. I shared the connection and all had a laugh.</p>\n<p>I grabbed a few McMunn&rsquo;s golf tees to bring back to Gene at Dick&rsquo;s Barbers. ⛳️</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/5180a40391.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Pint of Guinness stout with a creamy head on a wooden table beside a leather-bound McMunns of Ballybunion pub restaurant menu\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/4b8acf1b53.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" alt=\"Middle-aged bald man in a dark polo shirt leaning on a green barber chair inside a busy barbershop\">\n<img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/cc25b2e348.jpg\" alt=\"Man in a black jacket and plaid shirt smiling outside McMunns pub in Ballybunion Ireland\">\n",

Instead a day to explore to rock walls, investigate tide pools, examine jellyfish and crabs that were in the sand, attempt to escape the waves, and in general chill and relax. The water and waves were beautiful.</p>\n<p>We enjoyed the day as the tide came in and the water eventually separated what used to be the Men’s and Women’s beaches. The tide moves the waterline about 100 meters in or out, and completely swallows a large rock outcropping.</p>\n<p>Even though the weather was cool at 55 °F with heavy winds both Mazie and Tyler did eventually get swimsuits on and attempt to bogey board. I made Tyler stop when he was incessantly shivering.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/1c93178867.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Tall layered sea cliff with rust and black rock strata meets sandy beach, a small cave at its base, waves and cloudy sky beyond\"><img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/34a7bb9022.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Two people in hooded Columbia rain jackets stand smiling on a wide wet sandy beach with waves breaking behind them.\"><img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/59b92e5719.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Two people in hooded jackets stand on a wide wet sandy beach reflecting clouds, with waves and a rocky cliff in the background.\"><img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/b2daead35d.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Four people in rain jackets smile for a selfie on a sandy beach below dramatic coastal cliffs\"><img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/7581824a92.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Rocky coastal tide pools with green algae and small pebbles, ocean visible in the background under a partly cloudy sky.\"><img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/22af4aac71.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Red and yellow lifeguard flag on an empty sandy beach backed by dark layered cliffs with green grass on top, a rescue board lying nearby.\"><img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/cfacc11352.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Jellyfish washed ashore on wet sand at Ballybunion Beach, its translucent body leaving an intricate imprint in the sand\"><img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/2f63d7989c.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Ruins of Ballybunion Castle atop a grass-covered rock outcropping rising from sandy beach, with people climbing the dark layered rock face below.\"><img src=\"https://cdn.uploads.micro.blog/890/2024/d60a268d60.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Wide sandy beach at Ballybunion with crashing Atlantic waves, green clifftops, lifeguard flag poles, and a small coastal village in the distance under cloudy skies.\"></p>\n",

The first mile or two were pretty easy. Then the road tipped up as we went to the top. You walk the whole way on the road so it is easy stepping just a steady climb. You also need to watch out for cars, bicycles, and the horse-drawn jaunting cars. Plenty of sweating on the way up.</p>\n<p>When we got to the top we took a family selfie holding on to the high point marker as the wind blasted us from the other side. I don&rsquo;t know how strong the winds were but you could lean into them quite a bit.
