Farewell Video
Last night was my absolutely amazing farewell party at the Bernard’s house. The gang put together this awesome going away video for me. It’s just great. Thank you so much everyone. Who would have ever thought reading Twitters could be so funny! There is an amazing, completely unexpected and inexplicable cameo at the end. But [...]
MarketWatch, Dow Jones Chapter Closing
Today I’m closing a very long chapter in my career. This is my last day at Dow Jones/MarketWatch. This transition has been in the works for a while. It was announced in January and over the course of the following months I’ve been able to wrap-up some projects, transition others and most importantly work to [...]
Flashback: MarketWatch in Windows 2000 Launch
There are a few points in the history of BigCharts and MarketWatch that I’m especially proud of. Perhaps one of the most prominent ones, and most public, is the inclusion of the BigCharts BigArchitecture (the name we retroactively gave the COM-infrastructure behind MarketWatch and BigCharts) in the scalability demo at the Windows 2000 launch event. Flashback: The Day Webfront Died
I’ve been cleaning up some old, old files on my machine and have run into some really fun stuff. I’ll have a few posts with some of this stuff.
Here is a fake homepage for MarketWatch that was created by our editorial team in San Francisco on the day that webfront died. You see, in the [...]
Confluence Case Study
A case study was just posted at the Atlassian website on the use of the Confluence wiki solution at work. Some nice quotes from me in it, and the story on how we’ve been using Wiki’s. It leaves out some of the longer history though. The Wiki use really started in MarketWatch long before Dow [...]
Dow Jones Disco Party 2007
Oh my. Really. Wow. Absolutely fabulous!
That is the only way to start any post on the 2007 Dow Jones Disco Party that we had this year. I’ve been slow to get a post up because I wanted to get the photos online. This years party was a complete blast. I had given a preview of [...]
The Office Men’s Bathroom
At our office we have a long running joke about the men’s bathroom. By long running I mean several years. There is always something wrong. Flooding. Broken knobs and handles. Atomic flushing. I’ll leave it at the pleasantries. A couple weeks ago I walked in and saw a nice note on the door to one [...]
Introducing my Robot
A couple of months ago I heard about Twitter for the first time. I logged onto it, created an account, and pretty much instantly decided that it served no purpose. Honestly, I just didn’t get it at all. A friend of mine, mostly on a lark, decided that he was not going to let Twitter [...]
MarketWatch Golf Outing
We just got done with the annual MarketWatch golf outing today. It was a great day. I took far more pictures than are needed, check them out. Just to prove I’m insane I actually captioned them as well!
