OLPC XO-1 Arrived

My One Laptop Per Child XO-1 arrived today! I haven’t had any time to work with it so you will all have to wait to hear my thoughts on it. Some things that jumped right out though include…

  • The keyboard was designed for children (duh!) and is really small. Wow!
  • So far I haven’t been able to get it to join a WPA2 WiFi network. See comments below.
  • It’s really cute.

To tide everyone over, here are some pictures of Mazie holding it. She’s a kid after all! :-)

Hi,

My XO-1 arrived yesterday. According to the OLPC wiki, WPA support is coming in 2008, so for now it’s WEP only :-/.

You will likely need to flash the OS to 653 before you will be able to connect to WPA2. I did that and it works for me now.

@Michael,

Thanks for the info! That worked perfect. I’m actually typing this response from my XO-1 via WPA2. Now if the 653 build just made the keyboard bigger! :-)
